Our Malvern, Our Future
A community planning initiative led by the Toronto Community Benefits Network.
The initiative engages Malvern residents, businesses, and community groups through meetings, forums, and pop-ups to identify community priorities and co-create a vision for Malvern’s future and the Malvern Town Centre redevelopment.
Community Engagement
In October, over 75 local community members, organizations, and groups came together at the Malvern Aboriginal Child and Family Centre to discuss the future of Malvern and the proposed redevelopment of the Malvern Town Centre.
- A presentation and update on the proposed redevelopment plan
- Community discussions on potential impacts to local programs and services
- Learning about equitable development and community wealth-building strategies
- Participatory “dotmocracy” activities on development, housing, and transportation
- Information on how to stay involved through a Community Resource Group
Special thanks to Councillors Jamaal Myers and Neethan Shan for joining this meeting.

Community Wealth Building (CWB) seeks to transform local economies by redirecting wealth back into the community, ensuring local people have a stake in the economic resources generated in their area.
This approach emphasizes local ownership, equitable access to resources, and the development of community-led enterprises — grounded in the belief that economic systems should serve the needs of the community.
Why Now?
The Malvern community is facing significant change. In 2022, the City of Toronto received a development application from Davpart Inc. to redevelop the Malvern Town Centre lands.
The revised plan proposes 13 towers ranging from 25–42 storeys, bringing thousands of new residents to the area. While the Town Centre is a vital hub for services and community life, it has never been owned by the community or the City.
How can this redevelopment unlock architectural, cultural, and economic opportunities for residents? How can community wealth and resilience be built while preventing displacement?
