What is Community Wealth Building?
Community Wealth Building transforms local economies by redirecting wealth back into the community, ensuring local people have a stake in the opportunities created in their neighbourhood.
This approach emphasizes local ownership, equitable access to resources, and community-led enterprises.
Why Now?
Malvern is at a critical point of transformation. In 2022, the City of Toronto received a development application from Davpart Inc. to redevelop the Malvern Town Centre lands.
The revised proposal includes 13 towers ranging from 25–42 storeys, bringing thousands of new residents into the area.
This raises important questions: How can redevelopment create architectural, cultural, and economic opportunities for current residents? How can Malvern build community wealth and resilience while preventing displacement?
